The business was formed in 1973, by Terry “Tar“ Smith. It was first known in the industry as a “trade shop.” A trade shop does jewelry repair and diamond setting for other jewelers. As an expert diamond setter, Tar works for fine jewelry stores throughout the five state areas. Although the business was expanded into retail sales in the 80s, the trade shop has remained a major part of GoldSmith Jewelers.
